Teaching with Smarphones

This article deals with using hand held devices such as smartphones or cellphones as teaching tools in the classroom. The teacher who wrote this article decided to test out the theory of using cell phones in the classroom as educational learning tools. All of his students had some type of smartphone device that they had know. He tried to make the students enjoy using their smartphone devices by using “in class polling” and “in class backchanneling” as part of the lesson plan and activities they did in class. This was a great way for students to learn and interact with one another. He also had the students read articles off of their smartphone devices that they needed in order to move on in the lesson plan with. One of the best uses he found for students using their smartphone devices was doing research. This teacher also had the students use google quite often for their assignments and other activities. Having the students use smartphones really helped the students learn the information that was presented to them very well. Using smartphones also helped the teacher tremendously for the activities done in class.

Student-run Tech Support Programs Advance at the Speed of Technology

This article is like many of the other articles involving technology in the classroom. This article is saying that technology needs to be used in the classroom since students theses days understand technology so much more than students that went to school 20 years ago. Students understand technology more than most teachers do, especially a lot more than the teachers that are close to retiring. Many teachers like to do things the old way which involves less technology or no technology at all. This article is stating a new way of teaching in the classroom. This new way would involve a new type of technology that would be used by both the students and the teacher. This would be a system in which both the teacher and the students do the lesson plan together and help teach one another to stand the material. The teacher would help teach the lesson plan with the students finding new ways of teaching it with technology. This way both the teacher and the student both benefit and both learn something.

What is your opinion of the issue in the article? Agree or disagree? Why?

I believe in what this article says and I totally agree with what it has to say. I believe that technology needs to be used in the classroom, especially this day in age where technology is pretty much used for everything now. I do believe that teachers need to understand technology more and use it more in the classroom. I think this would be a great system that would benefit both the teacher and the students. It’s a win, win situation and there is only good that could come out of this. I believe this is a great technique to be used in the classroom.

How will the issue help or hinder your teaching practice? Why?

I think this issue will help my teaching practice for many reasons. I am a person who believes as a future educator that technology needs to be more involved in the classroom for both the student’s and teacher’s sake. Using technology will help the teachers become better educators and help the students understand the learning material a lot more. Having a system in which they both help each other with the lesson and help each other understand what they’re working on, this is only going to be a good thing. This article will most deffinitely help me with being a future educator.

Tips for Tech-Cautious Teachers

This article involves using technology in the classroom at any level. It talks about how we as educators need to start using more and more technological devices for in the classrooms for our students to feel more comfortably learning. This day in age everything evolves around technology and students that are even in elementary are starting to understand technology and how to use it in their everyday lives. As teachers we also need to get out of our comfort zone and start experimenting with new technology and start doing new activities for our students to have the best education they can have possible. The days of using scantrons and written test are over. Students learn best with technology these days and especially hand-held devices whether they are from home or given to them from the school.

What is your opinion of the issue in the article? Agree or disagree? Why?

I like this article and I fully agree with what it has to say. I believe that we do need to have technology in the classroom and get rid of the old school way such as scantrons. As said before it’s very important that we have technology in the classrooms whether it’s using a computer or a hand-held device brought from home or given to the student by the school. A big concern this day in age is that the students feel comfortable learning and feel comfortable with in their learning environment. Students are more likely to learn better with technology more than if there wasn’t technology involved. Using the hand-held devices help the students to learn better.

How will the issue help or hinder your teaching practice? Why?

This issue will help me a lot through my teaching career and especially when I began my teaching career. I believe that technology needs to be used in the classroom every single day of the school year. As said before technology is being used more and more whether it’s at the elementary level or the high school level. I will also be doing a lot of experimenting with hand-held devices whether they are brought in by the students from their homes or given to them by me. We will also be doing many different learning activities so all students will be able to learn and do so in a comfortable environment. Technology is the best way for students to learn and the only way to teach from here on out.

Some Schools Actually Want Students To Play With Their Smartphones In Class

This article involves the use of handheld devices in the classroom. A middle school in New Hampshire has been letting their students use their touch-screen devices in class for three years. They learn how to make presentations, how to keep track of their homework, and what they should and shouldn’t post on social media sites. Their devices can be their planners, agenda books, and pocket reference libraries all day long. They can bring their own devices from home and if the student does not personally own a touch-screen device, the school will provide one for them. They had one concern involving the school’s network if it’s secure and well-filtered. Also if kids take and share inappropriate pictures along with if the touch-screen devices will be a distraction. This article also states that there is no going back to the old days and everything in the classroom involves technology and will be for the future.

What is your opinion of the issue in the article? Agree or disagree? Why?

I personally like this article and agree with what this middle school is doing. I believe that schools should allow students to bring their touch-screen devices to class and like this school did, show them how to use their touch-screen devices for educational purposes. I believe that this day in age technology needs to be used at all levels of education especially with technology being used in everyday situations. With students using technology this will help them in their future whether it’s for school or their careers. I also liked how that if the student didn’t personally own a touch-screen device the school would provide. With the way the economy is not every student can afford to have a touch-screen device, the school can provide one and everyone can participate and learn.

How will the issue help or hinder your teaching practice? Why?

This issue will help me as a teacher. I will make sure that we use technology a lot in my classroom so I can help prepare my students for their future studies and future career paths. I want my students to learn how to use their devices for educational purposes and not have it be a distraction in the classroom. Using technology in the classroom is a very good thing and helps both me as a teacher and the students. I will also try to encourage other teachers to use technology and students to also use it in their everyday lives to accomplish their daily tasks.

In BYOT It’s the Y and O That Matters

This article contains information based on students bringing their own hand-held technology devices into school with them. A fourth and fifth grade teacher told all his students that were sitting in the cafeteria during lunch that he would allow them to bring in their own handheld games for inside recess when the weather was not permitting outside. The teacher was a little indecisive when making the choice, but he understood that the students wanted to use their handheld devices that they use at home. He wanted the students to use their own imagination but also understood the school can provide both opportunities for students to use technology and their own imagination. He feels that technology brought home from students, has positive potential in the classroom.

What is your
opinion of the issue in the article? Agree or disagree? Why?

I like the article and what the teacher is attempting to do. He has a lot of enthusiasm and positive energy toward students using handheld devices. I don’t agree with what he did though. I don’t believe letting elementary students using technological handheld devices from home will help them in any way at school. This will have them unfocused and they will not want to do their schoolwork at all. I believe it’s to early at the elementary level to have students using handheld devices and games at school. This is just a distraction and will not help them in their pursuit of getting an education. I think it would be alright at the junior high level or high school level to use handheld devices because they would be used for educational purposes and not for anything like indoor recess. The teacher has the right idea, but needs to put it more towards an education purpose and not for indoor recess.

How will the
issue help or hinder your teaching practice? Why?

This issue will help my teaching practice because what I have taken from this article is to use handheld devices, but not from home or at the elementary level. I will use handheld devices, but I will make sure that they are provided by the school and not by the students. I believe technology in education is very important and crucial to the student’s education pursuit, especially in today’s world where there is technology everywhere. There is more and more technological devices being used in the classroom and there will be more as time goes on.
